A Letter to Kay

Dear Kay,

I cannot thank you enough for delivering our precious little girl Sienna!  She is 12 weeks old today and growing well and changing daily. I have managed to continue with exclusively breast feeding, so thank you for all your help and support.

I just want to thank you for such a truly memorable experience. I had the most amazing pregnancy and birth. Having you as my independent midwife was such a wonderful experience that Nathan and I will never forget. Although I had a very low risk pregnancy, I put this down to having you as my midwife. I knew that you, whom I had built a lovely relationship with, was always there to contact should I have any concerns. I was also confident that you would always provide me with the different perspectives, not scaring me with worst case scenarios, which kept me calm. You provided us with information throughout my pregnancy and allowed Nathan and I to make our own decisions without any pressure.

The day Sienna entered the world I will never forget.  Yes, it was painful, but it was the most incredible experience of my life. I feel so grateful to have had you by our side. Your presence kept Nathan calm as he had built trust in you throughout my pregnancy. All he wanted was for baby and me to remain safe throughout and for me to get my wish of a home birth. You allowed me to lead my own birth in the comfort of my own home. From what I can remember, you sat back quiet but was always there to provide me and Nathan with the reassurance that everything was ok just when it was needed. I am also so grateful that you supported my mum as well, giving me homeopathic remedies to help my labour progress. My mum will be forever thankful for the knowledge she gained for her first homeopathic home birth.

To have you visit in the weeks following Sienna’s birth was just what I needed. Everyone tells you how horrific birth can be (which for me is such a shame as I had a wonderful birth) but no one prepares you for breastfeeding!! Your support enabled me to continue exclusively breastfeeding which is something I really wanted to do. I’m not sure I would have been able to without your support.

Overall the care, information and support you provided was more than we could have ever wished for. Thank you so much and we will definitely get in touch if we have a second baby!!
