Katie’s birth story
/I never thought I would look back at birth in such a positive way; I viewed it as something I very much had to just "get through". But I look back on Luna's birth now with such a sense of warmth that I never thought possible.
After the birth of my son in hospital my husband and I decided we wanted a different experience second time around. We were after continuity of care in a warm and professional manner, a midwife that we knew and that knew us and a supportive atmosphere for all our appointments and eventually for the birth. We found all of this in Kay and so much more. As someone who suffers from anxiety, I asked lots of questions, borrowed some books from her and in general needed a good deal of reassurance throughout pregnancy and during labour. Kay was kind, generous with her time, knowledgeable, professional and just all round lovely.
The birth itself was exactly what we had wanted - at home and in the birth pool. The gentle encouragement, non-invasive examinations and support for my husband too was very much appreciated during the labour and birth. Afterwards we sat around with a cuppa and some biscuits like it was just a normal Thursday afternoon!
Being in contact with Kay afterwards was also amazing. Like in the pregnancy, I had many questions in the first week after the birth and Kay was always available to reassure me via message outside of our appointments.
I cannot recommend Kay enough. She's a fabulous midwife but most importantly, she's a wonderful woman!
